Feeling Tense? Try This 5-Minute Reset

We've all had those moments.

Your shoulders feel tight.

Your mind won't slow down.

You've been sitting for hours, and even though the day isn't over, your energy already feels drained.

The good news?

You don't need an hour-long massage or a weekend getaway.

Sometimes, five intentional minutes are enough to help your body reset.

Let's do it together.

Minute 1: Check In With Your Body

Before trying to change anything, simply notice how you feel.

Ask yourself:

  • Where am I holding tension?
  • Am I clenching my jaw?
  • Are my shoulders creeping towards my ears?
  • How is my breathing?

You don't need to judge it.

Just notice.

Small awareness is the first step towards relaxation.

Minute 2: Slow Your Breathing

Slow Your Breathing

Now slow everything down.

Try this simple breathing pattern:

• Breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds

• Hold for 2 seconds

• Breathe out slowly for 6 seconds

Repeat three times.

As your breathing slows, your nervous system receives a simple message:

"You're safe. You can relax."

Minute 3: Wake Up Your Body

Stand up.

Roll your shoulders backwards.

Stretch your arms overhead.

Slowly turn your head from side to side.

Take a short walk around the room if you can.

Movement helps release stiffness and improves circulation after long periods of sitting.

Minute 4: Change Your Environment

environment often help your mind follow.

Sometimes your surroundings need a reset too.

Open a window.

Turn on a lamp instead of harsh overhead lighting.

Lightly scent the room with lavender or eucalyptus.

Play soft background music.

Small changes in your environment often help your mind follow.

Minute 5: Give Yourself Permission to Pause

For one final minute...

Do absolutely nothing.

No phone.

No emails.

No notifications.

Simply sit comfortably and allow your body to enjoy the calm you've created.

If you have a massage chair, this can be the perfect time for a short 10–15 minute relaxation session. Even a gentle programme can help extend the feeling of calm you've just created and make it easier to return to the rest of your day feeling refreshed.

Relaxation doesn't have to wait until the weekend.

Sometimes, the smallest break is exactly what your body has been asking for.
